Caramel Nut Bars
Ingredients
-
Crust:
- 3/4 cup butter, softened
- 1/3 cup packed dark brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 cups flour Filling:
- 1 cup butter
- 3/4 cup dark brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cup chopped nuts - I used walnuts
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup butterscotch chips
Directions
Preheat oven to 375
Grease a 9x13 glass baking dish.
Beat together 3/4 cup butter and 1/3 cup brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and mix until well blended. Beat in the flour small amounts at a time. You will have a sticky dough. Press dough into the well greased 9x13 pan and bake for 12-15 minutes until edges are golden brown.
While this is baking you can make the filling. Melt 1 cup of butter, 3/4 cup brown sugar, and the corn syrup in a small saucepan. Boil over medium heat, stirring frequently. Boil 2 minutes without stirring.
Take off the heat and quickly mix in the nuts. Spread over your crust and bake another 15 minutes or so, until golden brown and bubbly.
Remove from oven and sprinkle with chips immediately. Let them stand for about 5 minutes, until melted. Gently swirl chocolate together on top of the bars.
Cool about 1 hour before cutting. Enjoy!!
